This year marks the commemoration of 50 years of Ford’s second Le Mans victories, and has Ford GT dipped another nostalgia to celebrate. Legacy Edition Ford GT ‘ 67wears a red and white color scheme of the 1967 Le Mans winning GT40 Mark IV, complete with “No. 1” roundel and matching interior.
While the 1966 24 hours of Le Mans marked the culmination of the legendary feudbetween Henry Ford II and Enzo Ferrari (thanks to a deal to sell Ferrari Ford goes to the South), a race of 1967 is also impressive. It wins all-American first true for Ford, featuring not only America, but also a pair of American drivers: Dan Gurney and A.J.Foyt. The famous Gurney needed a hump added on the roof, known as the “Gurneybubble” to fit in the car.
In its inaugural season of the new GT, Ford was able to repeat the success of Le Mans class win in 1966 with GTE Pro. But in 50 years commemorative 1967 WINS, the Blue Oval came up short. Ford is only able to manage a second place in class GTE Pro,while the win went to Aston Martin.
Ford said the “limited quantities” GT ‘ 67 of the heritage Edition will be available for2018 model year only. The company only has confirmed that it will build 500 GTs, and it already has filled orders for the first 250. People who got waitlisted for first order period will get priority for the second batch.
