Renault Megane Sport Megane RS bipolar. It might not sound like a compliment, it is, but a big ‘un. This is our first drive in chassis without Megane RS ‘ rigid ‘ Cup-let’s call it NonCup – and it is a split personality of the packing of Tyler Durden proportions.
Taking it easy at NonCup and you can forget you are in a hot hatch at all. For the car front-wheel-drive packing 250bhp, it was a serious chill-out. In the pavilions along the A-road, it proved to be as soft and uncrashy as French dieselly saloon. The power of OAPs with thorns up calcification of the rifle and marvel at how they don’t lost several inches high every time you climb on top of a pothole.
Looking at the figures, perhaps this is not surprising. Compare Cup – is in itself no tail-bone crusher-NonCup at the front and rear springs are 35 and 38 percent less rigid respectively, while anti roll stiffness is down 15 percent. NonCup get a little more forgiving, narrow Tires as standard, as well.
Renault Megane Sport But what is surprising, at least once NonCup has be lulled You into a State of relaxation Qigong-like, is how loud it go when You already sent the old people with brittle bones and take out your inner Stig. Switch personality frankly rather disturbing, as it found that your local friendly librarian moonlights as vocalist of the death metal and bites the head of ducklings.
Not only does this Megane wear off, although it was quite exceptional. The 2.0-liter turbo engine remained unchanged from the version of the trophy, and blusters Megane to 62 mph in six-and-a-bit seconds, almost a second faster than the Golf GTI and just a few tenths slower than the focus RS. It seemed every bit as quick as the numbers show, but it was the sheer grip thing when you whang through some corners that seem to defy physics.
There are no difficulties or looseness that you expect from a car Renault Megane Sport that was so relaxed at low speeds. Instead, it was the largest weapon pliancy NonCup, leave it attached to the fact most junk which way stiff car will bounce. Maybe the last few microns lack flatness and feel you get from the Cup chassis, but still (cue self-congratulatory Pats on the back) and sublime things a justification welcomes our decision today our manufacturer RenaultSport award of the Year award a few months ago.
Renault Megane Sport To make like a Jekyll and Hyde hot hatch without resort to adjust the damper sport buttons or the like is a genius. In fact, I can’t think of another car who nails it multiple personalities with such aplomb. Our regular RS TheFocus hardcore hot hatch option, but Renault Megane NonCup might just be the ultimate all-round.
